David Evans III

About David

After graduating from the Northeast Multiregional Training Academy, David Evans III started his career as a police officer on the South side of Chicago. In 1992, he became a correctional officer with the Illinois Department of Corrections. For the last 15 years, David has been an officer with the Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC), working in external operations.

During his time at the CCDOC, David has fought for his fellow officers by starting and winning lawsuits and unfair labor practices against the Sheriff. His commitment to fighting for justice led him to be elected Chief Union Steward by his colleagues.

David has overcome many personal obstacles in his life, including homelessness and beating intestinal cancer. A true ambassador of the statement, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” David is proud of his past and takes every experience as an opportunity to grow and learn.

“I pay it forward every chance I get because I know what it feels like to be knocked down in life. In the same aspect, what we have done with the Front Line Labor Alliance is created a new union that is only here for one purpose: to truly help people. That is our passion and our goal.” – David Evans III
